Abstract

Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease with an increased fragility of the bones. Diet plays an important role in the formation and treatment of this widespread disease. The risk factors are an undersupply of calcium and vitamin D, underweight, as well as alcohol and nicotine abuse. Chinese Medicine regards osteoporosis primarily as a disorder in the change phase water and the organ kidney. Pathogenic factors like humidity and coldness, unhealthy lifestyle, wrong diet, and the emotional aspect fear are regarded as risk factors. By an integrated dietotherapy based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, very individual and specific nutritional and diet recommendations for prophylaxis and therapy of osteoporosis are possible.
