Abstract

Viruses employ intricate means to evade host innate immune systems. In this issue of Cell Host & Microbe, Nayak etal. (2018) demonstrate that the cricket paralysis virus (CrPV) protein CrPV-1A blocks host defense through a dual mechanism: directly inhibiting Argonaute2 (Ago2) and simultaneously targeting Ago2 for proteasomal degradation.
