Abstract
Research Article| June 01 2019 Betraying the Legacy of Stonewall Joseph Nicholas DeFilippis Joseph Nicholas DeFilippis Joseph Nicholas DeFilippis, MSW, PhD, is an assistant professor at Seattle University, where he teaches courses on social welfare policy, community organizing, LGBT issues, and social justice. Dr. DeFilippis has written numerous journal articles and book chapters on a range of issues, including radical queer activism, LGBT poverty, intersectionality, and marriage politics. He was one of the primary authors of the infamous 2006 critique “Beyond Same-Sex Marriage,” and one of the editors of A New Queer Agenda published in 2012 by the Barnard Center for Research on Women. In the past year, Routledge published a series of three books that he coedited: Queer Activism after Marriage Equality, The Unfinished Queer Agenda after Marriage Equality, and Queer Families and Relationships after Marriage Equality. Before entering the academy full-time, he had over fifteen years of activist experience, including welfare rights activism, serving as the director of SAGE/Queens, and as the founding executive director of Queers for Economic Justice.
