Abstract

A betatron system with magnetic biasing in which the exciting winding is connected in series–opposition to a compensating winding is described. This system has been experimentally investigated with an electromagnet of a commercially produced МИБ-6 betatron. A new feed circuit was developed, making it possible to adjust electrically an equilibrium orbit radius at the beginning and end of the acceleration cycle and to de-energize the compensating winding when the acceleration process is completed. The betatron with magnetic biasing was tested for the accelerated electron energy of 7.6 MeV at a radiation pulse repetition rate of 50 Hz. In this case, the bremsstrahlung dose rate was 1.3 cGy/min.
