Abstract

Performing Hartree-Fock plus RPA (or TDA) calculations, it is shown that the “superallowed” beta decays to Gamow-Teller (GT) giant resonances (GR) are possible both in very light neutron-drip-line nuclei (as β − decay) and in proton drip-line nuclei with Z ⪆ 40 (as β + decay), without calling for the phenomena related to a halo. The result calculated by using a schematic model with simple separable interactions is also given, in order to illustrate a general structure of the beta decay to GT GR states.
