Abstract

A new isotope 71Kr has been observed following mass separation of products from Nb irradiated by 600 MeV protons. The measured half-life of its high-energy β + activity is 97 ± 9 ms. This is the heaviest T z = − 1 2 mirror nucleus so far observed. Using a decay energy calculated from Coulomb energy systematics, information is obtained about the Gamow-Teller matrix element for the mirror β-transition.
