Abstract

The beta-decay of the 5.9 min isomer of108Rh and electromagnetic transitions in108Pd are investigated by singles gamma, β-γ and γ-γ coincidence measurements. The108Rh isomer was produced by the (n, p) reaction with an enriched108Pd target irradiated by 14 MeV neutrons. New γ-rays of energies 327.6, 437.6 and 2102.2 keV along with eleven other known γ-transitions have been observed. On the basis of β-γ and γ-γ coincidence measurements a revised decay scheme of the 5.9 min isomer of108Rh is presented and discussed. The decay scheme of108Rh includes a hitherto unreported β-group (Eβ=(1900±100) keV,Iβ=25.9%, logft=5.6) feeding a proposed level of108Pd at 2536.4 keV and confirms the existence and beta feeding of the 2864.7 keV level in108Pd. The108Pd (n, p)108Rhm (5.9 min) cross-section was measured by the activation technique to be σ(n, p)=(7.5±1.0) mb at 14.4 MeV neutron energy.
