Abstract
The beta activity of 239Pu fission products at short times after fission down to 1 msec has been measured using a slow neutron chopper and a time analyser. The paper describes the technique adopted for the experiment. The lower limit for the composite half-life of fission product beta decay has been estimated as 0·2 sec. The maximum beta energy of the fission product betas at 0·96 sec of decay has been found to be 5·7 MeV.
