Abstract
The classrooms in major Anglo countries are increasingly more globalized, with ever more international students coming from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. What attitudes, qualities, and competencies make the best university lecturers in the eyes of international students? What do university lecturers feel they need to do to accommodate the developing linguistic skills and diverse cultural needs of international students? This study invites both international students and their tutors in a UK university to share their perceptions and experiences in the international classroom in the UK. The perceptions of good lecturers among international students tend to focus on more general attitudinal and pedagogical qualities, while university lecturers perceive a need for intercultural awareness and inclusive pedagogy in a highly diverse global classroom.
