Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the core tasks and reflections accomplished by case manages who were identified to have employed the highest quality of practice. In order to achieve the research purpose, a qualitative content analysis was conducted on 66 cases selected by Institution K from 2014 to 2020. As a result of the analysis, the tasks performed by the case managers were identified as ‘formation of trustworthy and dependable relationships’, “assessment of clients’ current background, possessions, environment, and potential”, ‘case management planning with respect for clients’ participation and choice’, ‘sharing, responsiveness, and accompaniment’, and ‘evaluation of the seemingly imperceptible change in relationships and capabilities’. Case managers reflected on the importance of “support for clients’ rights and for their future courses of life” and ‘changes in the way of practice’. In addition, the significance of case management was reconfirmed through the selected examples and positive changes were experienced by not only clients, but also case managers and the local community. It can be noted that high-quality practice is not solely based on the capabilities of the case manager, and that it necessitates client and community involvement. Based on research results, the environment and effort required to induce high-quality practice among case managers were proposed.
