Abstract

Purpose: Rib fractures resulting in a flail chest incur significant morbidity and mortality, and often require mechanical ventilation support. Flail chest is often an unrecognised complication of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). This study described the use of a vacuum-assisted wound closure device (VAC) in an 83-year-old patient to stabilise a flail chest post CPR.
