Abstract
Possible routes to generate berthollide phases are considered, specifically, via the separation of part of a component-based solid solution due to morphotropic transitions and as a result of the intersection of the binodal line with the solidus curve. Particular example phase diagrams are given for binary systems containing berthollides. Experimental data on berthollide phase formation in systems of MF2-RF3 and NaF-RF3 (where R stands for rare-earth elements) are summed up.
