Abstract

In a thought-experiment, by considering a charge particle confined to a box which transports around a circuit threaded by a magnetic flux, Berry has shown that the Aharonov–Bohm effect can be interpreted as a special Berry phase. In this paper, we address the Berry phase for the state of an electron confined to a slowly rotating potential well. These results show that whether or not the Berry phase equals to the Aharonov–Bohm phase depends on the confined potential. We also propose a possible mesoscopic experiment to test this effect.
