Abstract

AbstractThe synthesis of peptide involving the process of conversion of the amino acid into itsN‐carbobenzoxy derivative, activation of the carboxyl group, formation of peptide with the second amino acid, and deprotection via hydrogenolysis is known as Bergmann‐Zervas peptide synthesis. The reductive removal of the carbobenzoxy group has been modified by treatment of the resulting peptide with metallic sodium in liquid ammonia because the catalyst (Pd, Pt) is not active enough in the presence of a sulfur‐containing molecule. Other deprotection methods have also been explored in the present study. This method has become a standard method for protecting amino groups in peptide synthesis.
