Abstract

The carbonyls [Ru 3(CO) 12] and [Os 3(CO) 12] react with the thioketene C 11H 18S ( 1) to give the dinuclear, dimeric complexes [Ru(C 11H 18S)(CO) 3] 2 ( 3b) and [Os(C 11H 18S)(CO) 3] 2 ( 3c) respectively. Reaction of [Ru(C 11H 18S)(CO) 3] 2 ( 3b) with PPh 3 yields the substitution product [Ru(C 11H 18S)(CO) 2(PPh 3)] 2 ( 4), but reaction with PMe 3, the mononuclear complex [Ru(C 11H 18S)(CO) 2(PMe 3) 2] ( 5) is formed. Trimethylphosphite reacts with [Ru(C 11H 18S)(CO) 3] 2 ( 3b) to give the compounds [Ru 2(C 11H 18S) 2(CO) 3(P(OMe) 3) 2] ( 6) and [Ru(C 11H 18S)(CO)(P(OMe) 3) 3] (7), the structures of which were determined by X-ray crystallography. The reaction of [Ru(C 11H 18S)(CO) 3] 2 ( 3b) with bipyridyl (bipy) yields the complex [Ru(C 11H 18S)-(CO) 2(bipy)] ( 9), and successive reactions, with H +, then with H −, gives the dimeric enthiolato complex [Ru(C 11H 19S)(CO) 3] 2 ( 11). The structure of 11 was also determined by an X-ray diffraction study.
