Abstract

(η 5-C 5H 5)(I) 2(CO)WCNEt 2, the first carbonyl containing carbyne complex, of tungsten in high oxidation state, has been obtained quantitatively from (η 5-C 5H 5)(CO) 2WCNEt 2 by oxidative decarbonylation with iodine. The composition and structure of the thermally stable purple compound were characterised by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.
