Abstract

Transition Metal Carbyne Complexes, XLIII: Reduction of a Metal-Carbon Triple Bond Reaction of [π-C5H5(CO)2ReCC6H5]+[BCl4]− with Et2AlH yields — depending on reaction conditions — the novel secondary carbene complex π-C5H5(CO)2ReCHC6H5 (2) or the σ-benzylhydrido complex π-C5H5(CO)2HReCH2C6H5 (3). The reaction is the first example of a stepwise reduction of a metal-carbon triple bond to a single bond.
