Abstract

The Family Group Conference (FGC) is a procedure which strengthens in a radical way the influence of clients in administrative support planning processes according to § 36 Children and Youth Welfare Act. Classical support planning is dominated by professionals. As effect of this dominance the plans fit better to the welfare systems needs than to the clients needs. Sustainable Social Work needs procedures which empower clients to contribute to support planning with their problem solving experiences and resources. If this is the case clients identify with the resulting plans. German and Dutch evaluation surveys show that the goal of empowering clients through FGC can be achieved.
