Abstract

In this paper, we analyze the bit error rate (BER) performance of two dimensional optical code division multiple access (2D-OCDMA) for underwater wireless optical (UWO) communication system using two dimensional perfect difference codes as user address sequence. In 2D-perfect difference codes (2D-PDCs) phase-induce intensity noise (PIIN) can be suppressed effectively. In order to eliminate multiuser interference (MUI) two balance detectors are used. A LED of 532nm wavelength is chosen as optical source and p-i-n photodiode is applied as optical detector in the proposed system. For calculating the BER, PIIN, thermal noises and shot noises are taken into account. The BER performance is discussed with respect to transmitter power, inclination angle, link distance and number of simultaneous users for several types of water medium. From all results it is found that best BER performance is achieved in pure sea water among all the water types.
