Abstract
Eigenvalueproblems of the form (λ2I − λ A − B)x = o with compact selfadjoint operators A, B (A non-negative, B positive-definit) are considered. The construction of intermediate problems uses a base problem \(\left( {{{\hat \lambda }^2}I - \hat \lambda \hat A - \hat B} \right):x = o\) with non-compact operators \(\hat A,\;\hat B.\)
