Abstract

InSphaerocarpus the latest time at which temperature had an influence on the frequency of recombination between four linked genes was determined. It was found that intergenic recombination normally did not occur before the 15th day after fertilization (Tables 1 and 2). At this time chromosomes are already replicated (Abel 1963). This means that replication should precede recombination. At the 15th day most spore mother cells were in leptotene (Table 3). It is concluded that intergenic recombination occurs between visible chromosomes.
