Abstract
Interaction of M(CO) 6 (M=Cr, Mo, W) with 4-phenylpyridin (L) under photolytic conditions leads to the formation of L·M(CO) 5. The reaction of 2,6-diphenylpyridine (C 17H 13N) with hexacarbonyl chromium in boiling dibutyl ether yields C 17H 13N·Cr(CO) 3 and C 17H 13N·2Cr(CO) 3. Analogously 2,4,6-triphenylpyridine (C 23H 17N) and hexacarbonyl chromium give C 23H 17N·Cr(CO) 3, C 23H 17N·2Cr(CO 3 and C 23H 17N·3Cr(CO) 3. IR, NMR, UV and mass spectra of these complexes are reported. The proton NMR spectra indicate that the Cr(CO) 3 groups are bonded to the phenyl substituents and not to the central pyridine ring.
