Abstract
The uropygial gland fats of the greenfinch, bullfinch and the linnet are mixtures of ester waxes, composed of 3-methyl-substituted fatty acids and normal and 3-methyl-substituted alkanols. In addition there are found traces of 2-methyl-substituted fatty acids and alkanols. As to the waxes there are close relations between the 9th and 6th family of the 4th suborder within the 32nd order of the natural system. The simultaneously investigated depot fat of the bullfinch shows no relation to the uropygial gland fat.
