Abstract

Herein we report the use of N-Heterocyclic carbenes, generated by electrolysis, as organocatalysts in the benzoin condensation reaction. The effect of various electrochemical and physical parameters was studied, and the procedure was carried out using various aromatic, and heteroaromatic aldehydes. The use of classical solvents as well as any addition of bases was avoided.
