Benzocaine modified maleic anhydride copolymers—I. Synthesis and characterization of benzocaine modified poly(maleic anhydride- co-vinyl acetate), poly(maleic anhydride- co-methyl methacrylate) and poly(maleic anhydride- co-styrene)

Abstract

A series of copolymers of maleic anhydride with vinyl acetate, methyl methacrylate and styrene (of various molecular weights) has been prepared and characterized. This paper describes the preparation of copolymers, their hydrolyzed derivatives, benzocaine compounds, molecular weight measurements, compositional characterization and degree of substitution via an amide bond.
