Abstract

From an elemental strategic point of view, benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]bis[b]benzothiophene is an attractive cathode material for lithium-ion batteries owing to its high theoretical capacity (184 mAh g−1) with two-electron reaction. In this study, this material was synthesized in only four steps, including the synthesis of the precursor. It showed a high discharge plateau at 4.0 V vs. Li+/Li. The observed discharge capacity was as small as 73 mAh g−1 with a single plateau; however, the material is still promising because it showed two reversible redox reaction couples in cyclic voltammetry.
