Abstract
Herein we report a first, palladium catalyzed, one-pot methodology for the synthesis of pharmacologically important benzimidazoles and benzothiazoles from readily available terminal aromatic olefins. The process involves sequential CC/CN bond cleavage followed by CN/CS bond formation.
