Abstract
Chapter 56 discusses benign fibrous matrix lesions of bone, which are a group of tumor and tumorlike conditions with overlapping imaging characteristics. These lesions include entities such as benign fibrous histiocytoma, nonossifying fibroma, fibrous dysplasia, osteofibrous dysplasia, and desmoplastic fibroma. Most benign fibrous tumors of bone are highly characteristic when considering clinical presentation and appearance on radiography. These lesions do not generally require treatment, although pathologic fracture, mechanical deformities, and size progression are indications for intervention. Benign lesions can be polyostotic and can be associated with syndromes. This chapter will review demographics, multimodality imaging features, differential diagnoses, and clinical management of benign fibrous bone lesions.
