Abstract
The American Chemical Society (ACS) Exams Institute produces nationally normed exams for most chemistry courses, including biochemistry. The ACS Biochemistry Exam is created by a committee of educators who teach a biochemistry course. Topics typically covered on the ACS Biochemistry exam include metabolism, genetics, biomolecules, and enzymes. The 2013 Biochemistry exam is designed for use in either one‐semester biochemistry courses or two‐semester sequences. It does this by having 40 core items (for a 1‐semester course) and an additional 20 advanced items for those who use the exam in a two‐semester sequence. Discussion will focus on the benefits of using the ACS Biochemistry Exam as a form of assessment in a biochemistry course.
