Abstract

Rationale: Among sepsis survivors, development of an ICU acquired muscle weakness (ICUAMW) is often associated with long-term disability. In healthy subjects, whey protein is known to stimulate the proliferation of muscle stem cells (satellite cells (SC)) and muscle development [1]. The anabolic properties of whey may limit the functional consequences of ICUAMW. The aim of this study is to determine if oral whey supplementation can improve muscle regeneration in a mouse model of sepsis-induced inflammatory response.
