Abstract
This paper presents a study on bending strength estimation of thin-rimmed spur gears. A bending strength estimation method, using the fatigue limit diagram for gear material and cyclic stresses at root fillets of each tooth of thin-rimmed spur gears under the normal running condition calculated by the two-dimensional finite-element method (FEM), was proposed. The bending strength estimation using this estimation method and the bending fatigue test were carried out for a thin-rimmed spur gear with spokes, and the validity of the proposed bending strength estimation method was confirmed.
