Abstract

A small defiection solution is examined by using a polar co-ordinate system having its origin at an obtuse corner. In this way, it is possible to take adequate account of the singular behaviour which occurs at the obtuse corners and readily to obtain accurate numerical results. The displacement and principal bending moments at the centre of the plate are tabulated for various angles of skew. A comparison is also made with the results obtained from finite difference calculations based upon a uniform net having a rhombic mesh. In this case it is found that the accuracy rapidly deteriorates with increasing angle of skew.
