Abstract

The ultrasonic peen forming simulations and experiments of stiffened plates are conducted and effects of forming parameters on bending deformation and surface properties are analyzed. The results show that impact in spanwise direction is beneficial to enlarge chordwise deformation and decrease spherical deformation. Increasing firing pin velocity and diameter, shot peening times and decreasing offset distance is beneficial to increase chordwise deformation; meanwhile, large surface hardness and compressive residual stress can be obtained. The depth of the maximum compressive stress increases with ascending velocity and diameter of firing pin; however, it varies little with offset distance and shot peening times.
