Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the condition of MSMEs (Micro Small Medium Enterprises) in Indonesia and the role of the digital economy in supporting MSME. To achieve research goal, benchmarking and gap analysis on the condition of MSMEs in other countries was conducted to get suggestion for the ideal conditions of MSMEs in Indonesia in the future. By doing so, it is expected to support the main objectives of Indonesia’s economic growth target of 7%. Qualitative methods are used in this study by collecting and analyzing relevant data based on observations, documents, and artifacts. The data sources used in this study are from the existing conditions of MSMEs in Indonesia and the existing conditions of MSMEs from three other countries that are considered to have excellent results including China, Korea and Malaysia. The result shows that there is a significant different between MSMEs in Indonesia and three other countries compared. This study found that the condition of Indonesia is still far behind compared to China and Korea. While compared to Malaysia, the condition of MSMEs in Indonesia is in a condition that is not much different. Market, support and policy are higher criteria for MSMEs in China and Korea.
