Abstract

Benchmark data is presented for the penetration of 6·13 MeV gamma photons through various thicknesses up to 35 cm of steel and 15 cm of lead. Experimental data has been obtained using an isotropic uniform disc source, a NaI(Tl) spectrometer and the unfolding code GAMAK. Calculated dose has been determined using the Monte-Carlo code McGID. Good agreement has been established between experimental and calculated values. The Bremsstrahlung contribution is significant for 6 MeV source photons penetrating lead.
