Abstract

Bench Saw Matt Vekakis (bio) I hate the sound:like the inside ofan iron beehive.I'm too young toknow it doesn'tmean welcome. I watch you tracepencil-lines intocedar shakes fordriving throughthe screamingblade: hoping. I walk further intomyself: writingwords on reamsof wood pulp withOrion's Belt tiedaround my neck. I miss you at dawn, even the rank ofkerosene. Wakingin afternoon to athundering clapof a falling tree. I look out to thebackyard: barewith stalagmites [End Page 56] of tree stumpsyou say I owe toomuch wonder. I hear you feedthe bench saw;leaving only theangry din to saywhat we won'tto one another.
