Abstract

Abstract‘Libro di novelle e bel parlar gentile’ was the title inscribed on an early manuscript of the thirteenth-century collection of very short narratives which we know as the NOVELLINO. This title precisely defines the nature of the work: it is a book (not a miscellany) of novelle, in which the spoken language is not only the vehicle but also one of the prime values expressed in and through the stories.
