Abstract

Only one Great ape survived World War II, the female Chimpanzee „ Suse“. 1951 a male Chimpanzee – called „ Jonny“ – came by an animal dealer to the zoo, and one year later the first offspring (1,0 „ Sam“) was born. Other births occurred 1963, 1966 and 1971, and later on in another group 1988, 1989 and 1990. „ Sam“ reached an age of nearly 49 years.
