Abstract
After some remarks about the classical determination of the figure and the gravity field of the earth, the establishment of the geodetic world system is defined as the principal task of global geodesy (earthmeasurement). Then some mathematical models for realization of the geodetic world system using terrestrial observations and the necessity of satellite observations for the determination of geocentric station coordinates and the gravity field are shown. After an introduction into satellite geodesy some geometric, dynamic and combined solutions are discussed.
