Abstract

This paper seeks to criticize the model of ministerial training as formation, which continues to be defended in certain parts of the Church of England. Against the ideology of clericalism and submission that undergirds priestly ontology, and the damaging consequences of its impact upon training, Anglicanism has at its disposal resources for a far richer account of priesthood through the language of vocation and relation. It is the argument of this paper that such an understanding possesses far more scope for transforming priests and transforming priesthood.
