Abstract

College and university officials have long complained about the methodologies used in the annual rankings of "best" colleges by publications such as U.S. News and World Report, the Princeton Review and Peterson's. Recently, a group of 12 liberal arts college presidents (Strauss, 2007) informally agreed to boycott such rankings by refusing to provide information used to prepare annual reports on "best colleges."
