Abstract

I am honored to have been invited to write for IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine's 'Women in Engineering" column. It is indeed exciting, but stimulating, given that I am used to writing technical papers! I am excited by this challenge, however, because I believe women in electromagnetics are advancing. Although there is still work to do, we are in an exhilarating time in electromagnetic engineering. Communication is changing the world as 5G and the Internet of Things are penetrating into our market, and meanwhile, the engineering community has begun to feel the need for a diverse community. More and more people from different backgrounds are joining the team. The number of women in the electromagnetics field is increasing, but there is still a considerable disparity. It is an exciting time in electromagnetics engineering: communication is changing the world, the engineering community has started feeling the need for a varied community, and more diverse people are joining the team.
