Abstract
The aim of this comparative registry study was to evaluate the supplementation with Pycnogenol® in subjects with Behçet syndrome (BS) with symptoms impairing their quality of life despite being in a remitting phase of the disease. Thirty-four patients with a confirmed diagnosis of BS were divided into the control group (without supplement) or the active group, in this specific case using Pycnogenol® (Horphag Research LTD) supplement at the daily dose of 150 mg (50 mg tid) for 4 weeks. All subjects receiving Pycnogenol® reported a significant decrease in symptoms, such as burning/pain due to dryness and ulcerations (P<0.05). In addition, Pycnogenol® showed important anti-inflammatory activity by decreasing ESR, leucocytosis and Pathergy Test response. Pycnogenol® may be a useful supplementation for the management of BS.
