Abstract

By means of Doppler broadening positron annihilation as well as X-ray diffraction and electrical resistance measurements, the behaviour of quenched-in vacancies during martensite aging in CuZnAl alloys was investigated. Prominent changes in the line shape S-parameter were found to occur during the initial stage of martensite aging. Adding Ti to CuZnAl alloys resulted in lowering the mobility of the vacancies and in turn retarding the stabilisation of martensite. Based on the results, the mechanisms of the martensite stabilisation process were discussed.
