Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the behaviour of pile shaft resistance subjected to thermo-mechanical loads for a shallow geothermal energy pile installed in Melbourne, Australia. Thermal observations were also carried out to assess the thermal capacities of the energy pile installed in sandy soil conditions. This research commenced with laboratory scaled model pile testing followed by the design, installation and testing of a full scale field energy pile utilising Osterberg cells.
