Abstract
Biosynthesis of ent-kaurene was studied in extracts of germinating seeds and tumor cells of sunflower. Cell-free extracts derived from germinating seeds catalyzed the formation of [ 14C]ent-kaurene from [ 14C]mevalonate. On the other hand, extracts derived from tumor cells induced by two strains of Agrobacterium tumefaciens when incubated with [ 14C]mevalonate showed no conversion of the substrate to any detectable amount of [ 14C]ent-kaurene. Extracts of tumor cells were found to contain an inhibitory activity of ent-kaurene synthesis.
