Abstract

Critical fusion frequency as a function of luminance and wavelength for the fresh-water turtle (Chrysemys picta picta) is reported. The data show that this turtle has two visual mechanisms that differ in frequency response. In addition, intensity and wavelength preferences were studied. These data indicate that this turtle is positively phototactic and has a mild preference for long wavelength light.
