Abstract

Thirty-four severely bulimic outpatients were treated with an exposure plus response prevention treatment package. Therapeutic effects were evaluated by multiple outcome measures. Despite high severity ratings and prior failure with other treatments, the majority of subjects improved significantly. Improvements appeared to result from treatment recommendations and were maintained at follow-up. Implications for the outpatient treatment of bulimia are discussed.
