Abstract

Introduction: Improved survival in children with congenital heart disease (CHD) has increased the focus on optimizing behavioral and emotional outcomes. It is unclear what factors mediate the relationship between CHD severity, social determinants of health (SDH), and behavioral and emotional outcomes. We hypothesized that greater CHD severity and worse SDH are associated with worse behavioral and emotional functioning and are mediated by disease-related chronic stress and psychosocial adaptation.
