Abstract

Abstract It is seen that great care is required in choosing constitutive equations which will correctly describe the behavior of viscoelastic fluids in processing equipment. The choices available, and their advantages and limitations, are considered through solution of a number of example problems. These considerations serve to develop scale-up criteria directly. The importance of the Deborah, Weissenberg, and Reynolds numbers in such problems is noted.
